Barque, 350 tons (420 tons old measure), built in London in 1830 of teak, owner T. Ward of London. Under Captain Green she brought some of the first immigrants to Nelson in 1842. The ship had a sad story to tell on arrival with the loss of 65 children. A book called “The Sails of Suffering” has been written on the voyage. The ship was also used to transport convicts to Australia in 1833, 1837 and 1845. Length 92ft 2in x breadth 26ft, with a height between decks, from deck to beam, as follows; at forward deck, 5ft 9in, amidships, 5ft 10in, aft, 5ft 3in. The ship had a square stern, two decks, a topgallant forecastle and a roundhouse (another name for a separate deck house) on the poop and was coppered in 1839. The ship was sold to Tebbot & Co in 1845 and was lost on 26 August 1850 on the Tiger Shoals in the Flores Sea.
